Singita Sabora Tented Camp

Home / Singita Sabora

Sabora, a luxurious permanent tented camp within the Singita-owned Grumeti Reserve in the western Serengeti, stands as one of Tanzania’s premier lodges and a perfect choice for an exceptional Tanzania safari. Positioned right on the plains, Sabora offers a truly remarkable experience, especially during May and June when the area is adorned with wildebeest during the migration’s passage.

The entire camp captures the essence of a traditional safari camp reminiscent of the 1920s, featuring antique furnishings and meticulously designed, spacious tents. However, Singita has left its indelible mark on Sabora, infusing it with world-class cuisine, a splendid swimming pool, and an unrivaled safari adventure.

Sabora’s unique blend of timeless elegance and contemporary luxury creates an unforgettable safari experience in one of Africa’s most iconic wilderness settings.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp - The Facts

Singita Sabora is nestled within the private Grumeti Reserve, an exclusive game reserve adjacent to the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park. This pristine wilderness is home to only three properties, all owned by Singita, a renowned Tanzania safari company. Accessing these exceptional lodges is convenient via the Sasakwa airstrip, with scheduled flights available from various locations in northern Tanzania and Dar es Salaam.

The lodge’s main area is elevated on a wooden platform, featuring tented dining spaces and lounges adorned with exquisite antique furniture. A spacious veranda at the front offers breathtaking views across the Sabora plains and provides an ideal setting for alfresco dining under the stars. Adjacent to the lodge is a charming small swimming pool.

The guest tents at Singita Sabora are generously spaced, offering splendid views of the plains and furnished to the highest standards, providing a luxurious tented safari experience. These rooms are air-conditioned, equipped with electricity, and feature spacious bathrooms.

Within the Grumeti Reserve, exclusive game viewing is conducted in open-sided vehicles, offering exceptional wildlife encounters. The reserve also offers walking safaris upon request and outstanding horse riding safaris. Off-roading is permitted, allowing you to track wildlife through their natural habitat, providing excellent photographic opportunities. Singita also offers a mobile luxury camping Serengeti Safari experience known as Singita Explore.

When visiting Singita’s Grumeti concession, it’s a great idea to combine a stay here with a camp within the National Park itself, such as Singita Mara. The timing of your visit can affect your wildlife viewing experience, as the Grumeti region sees the wildebeest arrive in June and depart by mid-July. Therefore, combining Singita Sabora with another camp can offer a diverse and enriching safari experience throughout the year.

The Great Migration’s movements vary throughout the year. From November to March, the herds congregate on the Ndutu Plains, where an intense calving period occurs in February. They then migrate north through the Seronera and Grumeti regions before reaching Kogatende in July. While Singita has its property in the North, Singita Mara, perfect for witnessing the iconic river crossings, the National Park imposes restrictions on off-roading, and the area can become crowded. Hence, combining a National Park camp with a Singita lodge in their private concession provides a balanced experience, allowing for exclusive and intimate wildlife encounters with fewer restrictions.

After an exhilarating safari at Singita, there are excellent options for beach retreats just a short flight away. From the serene island of Mnemba to the upscale resorts of Zanzibar, nothing quite compares to savoring a refreshing beverage on the beach to unwind after your safari adventure.

Zanzibar offers a variety of hotels, but it’s essential to choose carefully, as tidal fluctuations can impact the beach experience in some areas. Hotels like Xanadu and White Sands offer beautiful villas for honeymooners and larger accommodations for families, equipped with every imaginable amenity. Zuri stands out for having the best beach, situated in a non-tidal part of the coast, allowing guests to enjoy uninterrupted beach time and ocean splashing. Numerous swimming pools and bars at Zuri provide entertainment throughout the day.
